Caudwell’s Mill Pop Up Shop

Pop-Up Shop Space Opportunity

We are proud to announce that Caudwell’s Mill Trust have approached The Derbyshire Makers to fill a section of their shop from the beginning of July!

They are looking for high quality, local, handmade products for part of the shop and have asked The Derbyshire Makers Administration to curate this section.

Makers taking part will be given the opportunity to sell their products and advertise their business for a small commission on sales payable to the Caudwell’s Mill Charity plus a small fee for The Derbyshire Makers Administration for a 6 week period.

Unlike most Pop-Ups you will not need to man the shop but just need to be available for changeover days and to replenish stock!

The whole section will also be under the banner of ‘The Derbyshire Makers’ which will raise the profile of our Community as a whole.

The Details

Space Available:

See the images below showing proposed layouts and photographs as the space is now. Please note that the current shelving will be removed and the walls may be painted white. As well as shelving, plain walls for art can also be made available.

The whole space is approximately 3.5m x 5m x 2.5m which will be split between the 4 Makers.

This is subject to negotiation and agreement dependent on the Maker’s requirements, type of product and available space but there can be wall space, a table, shelving, a lockable cabinet if required, and a power point.

It may be possible, by prior arrangement, to provide a limited space in the designated area to allow occasional small-scale demonstrations of crafts for special events.

Terms (please note: these terms have not yet been finalised but Makers will be notified of any changes before their agreement is finalised):

The space will be available for a minimum of 6 weeks.  Makers must commit to the agreed period of time.

Caudwell’s Mill

Caudwell’s Mill charge 20% commission on all sales.

Payments will be made at the end of the month both, during, and following the end of the period of use.

The Derbyshire Makers Administration

All bookings for the shop space will be made via The Derbyshire Makers Administrators who will curate and organise the pop up shop space. Makers should not approach Caudwell’s Mill directly to organise shop space.

The Derbyshire Makers Administration will charge an introductory fee of £25 per week (£150 in total) which will cover:

  • The relevant administration/organisation before and during the event including curation.

  • Preliminary communication between the Makers and Caudwell’s Mill - once set up, payment can be made directly.

  • Helping the Makers to prepare, take down and set up the shop.

  • Liaising with Caudwell’s Mill and visits where necessary to ensure the best for all parties.

  • Being the point of contact for both the Makers and Caudwell’s Mill should the need arise.

  • Promotion of the Makers, Caudwell’s Mill and the Shop via The Derbyshire Makers’ website and social media pages.

The Derbyshire Makers’ administration fee is payable by the Maker at least two weeks prior to their booking (where possible).

Makers will receive an email with confirmation of their slot together with an invoice.

The payment is in addition to the 20% commission payable to Caudwell’s Mill (see above).

Insurance:

Guest artisans should carry their own insurance for their work and public liability.  A copy of their details should be provided.

Breakages and thefts are extremely rare in the shop, but any that were to occur would have to be covered by the Maker's own insurance. Caudwell’s Mill will of course take the utmost care to ensure that these do not happen.

Makers should write out an inventory of stock on setting up their space which will be signed by a representative of Caudwell’s Mill so that there are no discrepancies.

Caudwell’s expectations of the Makers

  • Makers will not be expected to “man” their stalls, but they will be required to pop in on a weekly basis to check their stall and replenish stock.

  • Makers must ensure that any appropriate risk assessments are performed to ensure that displays are safe.

  • Products must clearly display adequate safety labels, if appropriate.

  • Makers will provide an image and short bio about themselves and their products which will be displayed on their stall by Caudwell’s Mill.

  • Areas must be kept adequately stocked, and stock must not be removed for other fairs/shows/exhibitions etc

  • Products need to be of a good professional standard in terms of design, skill, and functionality.

  • Presentation of the products in the shop, and packaging, should also be good quality. Counter / storeroom space will be available for storing branded packaging.

  • Liability for the standard of items and their fitness for purpose remains with artists, and if a customer has a problem with a purchased item, the Makers must contact the customer directly for any returns, refunds etc.

  • A small amount of replacement stock should be provided to be retained by Caudwell’s for restocking as products are sold.

  • Makers must provide clear labelling on every item to include artists name, price of item, any safety information if appropriate (i.e., “not a toy”), what item is made of.

  • Caudwell’s Mill to be referenced / tagged in social media posts where applicable.

What can Makers expect of Caudwell’s Mill?

  • A clear system for tracking of sales and money owed to Makers (minus the 20% commission) will be implemented.

  • Makers will be paid promptly for any sales achieved.

  • Caudwell’s Mill will provide display furniture that is safe and fit for purpose.

  • Caudwell’s Mill will ensure that displays are kept tidy and clean.

  • Stock will be replenished as items sell (if reserves have been provided).

  • Staff will commit to provide their usual high level of customer service when dealing with the guest products.

  • Staff will familiarise themselves with the products and the artisan bio so that they can advise and engage customers appropriately.

  • All sold products will be packaged in the appropriate branded packaging, and fragile items will be wrapped sufficiently to minimise any chance of breakages.

  • Caudwell’s Mill to reference / tag Makers in social media posts where applicable.
